‘Death Is More Beautiful’ exhibition: studies of prehistoric funeral rites
When prehistory tells us about the afterlife! How did prehistoric men and women say goodbye to their loved ones? What gestures, rituals and symbols did they devise to accompany their dead? The Cité de la Préhistoire invites you on a unique journey into the heart of the funeral rites of our distant ancestors. Burials, offerings, symbols carved into stone: through authentic, never-before-seen artefacts from excavations in south-eastern France, this exhibition lifts the veil on one of humanity’s most intimate mysteries — our relationship with death. A fascinating journey, designated an ‘Exhibition of National Interest’ by the Ministry of Culture, to be enjoyed at your own pace, with no time limit. 📅 From 8 May 2026 to 15 November 2028 🎟️ Included in the Cité de la Préhistoire ticket and the Grand Site Pass 🆓 Free on the first Sunday of every month
